October is almost here and with it, Creepshow Vol. 3 #1. The first issue of the new volume of the Eisner Award-nominated anthology series from Skybound and Image comics hit the shelves on September 25th. Following the format of the previous volumes, the five-issue anthology will bring stories from different writers and artists with monthly issues starting in September throughout January.
Creepshow Vol. 3 #1 features two stories. “Let ‘er Trip” is a tale of a mother’s love and how far she goes to save her daughter from a psychedelic cult. The first story of the miniseries is written by Chip Zdarsky (Batman) and illustrated by Kagan McLeod (Kaptara). The second story, “Scrimshaw”, was written and drawn by James McLeod (Godzilla), and introduces a reporter looking for small town secrets and finding more than he was looking for. Besides Zdarsky and McLeod, Creepshow Vol. 3 upcoming issues will bring stories from fan-favorites John Ridley (12 Years a Slave), John Arcudi (B.P .R.D) and Mike Carey (Lucifer). Like Creepshow Vol. 1 (2022-2023) and Creepshow Vol. 2 (2023-2024), different creative teams work on each story. Past issues had stories by Garth Ennis (The Boys), Saladin Ahmed (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) and Michael Walsh (Silver Coin).
Following the success of the series, a new Holiday Special issue was announced earlier this month. The one-shot Creepshow Holiday Special 2024 will hit the shelves on December 18, with stories from Tini Howard (Catwoman), Blake Howard (Punchline) and Stevan Subic (The Riddler: Year One).
Creepshow, from Skybound and Image Comics, is based on the same-titled Shudder TV series from 2019 to present. Moreover, the series is inspired by the same-titled movie anthology from 1982. The classic film was directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King, marking his screenwriting debut. The movie itself was an homage to horror comics from the 1950s, like Tales from the Crypt and The Haunt of Fear.
To have a comics series inspired by a TV series that is based on a movie that makes homage to comics gives a sense of full circle to the Creepshow franchise. You can find Creepshow Vol. 3 #1 at your local comic shop today.
