Media Release – Transcend Horizons Adds Free Hairdressing Course to Empower Trans Women and Sex Workers Leaving the Streets

Ponta Grossa, Paraná, BR – February 3, 2023 – Transcend Horizons, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting trans women and sex workers in rebuilding their lives, is proud to announce the launch of a free hairdressing course starting March 18, 2023. This initiative complements their existing makeup and nail courses, providing another pathway to professional and financial independence.

The new hairdressing course responds to the growing demand from trans women and sex workers who seek opportunities to leave the streets and build sustainable careers. Classes will be held five times a week, from 5 to 6 PM, and each session accommodates 20 participants, ensuring personalized attention. Enrollment opens February 10, 2023, with the program running for four months.

“Our goal has always been to provide practical tools for empowerment,” says Deborah Mayer, President of Transcend Horizons. “With the addition of the hairdressing course, we’re giving even more people a chance to reshape their futures. These programs aren’t just skills training, they’re lifelines.”

A Growing Network of Support

Transcend Horizons, operating for over 16 years, is more than a skills-training center. The non-profit also functions as a halfway house for women in crisis, providing temporary shelter, STD testing, access to healthcare, and contraceptive options. Their mission is to foster independence and dignity for marginalized communities.

Over the past three years, the organization has trained 200 participants in its nail and makeup courses. According to their records, 75% of graduates have secured jobs in salons or started their own businesses. With the addition of the hairdressing course, they aim to expand this success.

Empowering Statistics and Future Plans

Since its founding, Transcend Horizons has organized dozens of events and established robust support systems for their clients. They’ve partnered with local healthcare providers and businesses to ensure holistic support, addressing the social, economic, and health challenges their audience faces.

Mayer emphasizes the significance of the organization’s work: “Every class, every shelter, every partnership helps someone take a step toward safety and stability. It’s a ripple effect, one life changes, and it touches countless others.”
