Tokyo, Japan – August 15, 2023 – Tamichi Elementary School is proud to announce the launch of a new cultural exchange program with schools in Korea, Ukraine, and Australia, starting September 10, 2023. This initiative will give students the opportunity to enhance their English skills while sharing and learning about cultural traditions.

As part of the program, students will create two-minute videos introducing traditional hobbies and games from their country. The videos will be prepared using iPads provided to all public school students in Tokyo during the COVID-19 pandemic. These videos will then be compiled and shared with participating schools. The program also includes live Zoom presentations, fostering direct interaction between students in Japan and Australia.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about other cultures while practicing their English skills,” said Minami Kitazawa, Japanese Teacher of English at Tamichi Elementary School.

The idea for the exchange originated with Assistant Language Teacher Albert Smith, who collaborated with Kitazawa and international partners to bring the program to life. The entire process, from video preparation to final presentations, will take about one month.

Building on this success, the program plans to include a holiday card exchange later in the year to help students build personal connections with their new friends abroad.
